For many years I didn’t take any photos. I thought they detracted from being in the moment. But I couldn’t help noticing what might make a good shot, and nudging a companion to do it.

Eventually I bit the bullet and started taking them myself, first with film and then digital. I realised that I could be even more in the moment, by looking to frame the particular beauty, strangeness or humour of that place and time.

I still try to maintain balance. Taking some photos, but having plenty of time to just be.
